$321,475 in Troy Foundation Grants Awarded
TROY - During their December meeting, members of The Troy Foundation Distribution Committee approved grants totaling $321,475 to 28 programs. The grants will be used in support of the Foundation’s mission to improve the quality of life for our community by connecting donors to charitable causes for a better tomorrow. Grants were awarded from the General Fund, the Priority Needs Fund, and the Richard Shellenbarger Music Fund.

General Fund Grants
General Fund grants are made possible thanks to contributions from our unrestricted funds: the Charles
Morrill & Virginia McCullough Allen Fund, the Gladys J. Burnett Fund, the Harold & Lillian Miles Fund, the
Hayner Family Fund, the Leo H. Faust & Grace Fern Heck Faust Endowment Fund, the Leo & Vivian
Nolan Memorial Fund, the Mark & Dorothy Knoop Fund, and the Ralph & Margaret Heberding Fund.

  • Rehabilitation Center for Neurological Development/Nicholas School was awarded $775 to refurbish their sensory garden which engages all five senses and offers a place of respite for clients, caregivers, and staff.

  • Troy City Schools was awarded $900 to purchase the necessary resources to implement yogaand mindfulness practices in the K-2 classrooms at Kyle Elementary.

  • Miami County Animal Shelter received $2,000 to purchase materials for their off-site adoptionevents. Materials include a branded pop-up tent, table cloth, and a TV to display photos of adoptable pets.

  • CISV Midwest Ohio was awarded $2,000 in support of their 2025 Local Mini Camp, which bringskids together for peace education and experiential learning.

  • National Inventors Hall of Fame received $2,475 for their Camp Invention summer camp which aims to educate Troy students with engaging lessons in the STEM fields.

  • Young Life was granted $2,500 to purchase snacks and drinks for their weekly youth gatherings. These gatherings are designed to help students navigate the difficulties of life with trusted adults.

  • Troy City Schools received $4,000 to implement a field trip and in-class room programming by the Columbus Zoo. K-2 students will receive in-class programming led by staff from the zoo while grades 3-5 will travel to the zoo for a field trip.

  • Troy Christian Church received $5,000 for Night to Shine. This program offers an inclusive prom experience for our local residents with disabilities.

  • Maple Tree Cancer Alliance was awarded $5,000 in support of their exercise oncology program at Kettering Health Troy. This is a hybrid in-person and online program that helps oncology patients develop healthy habits to complement their treatment.

  • Miami Valley Council Boy Scouts of America received $5,000 in support of scouting programs in Troy. These programs run over a nine-month period and serve young people ages 6-20.

  • We Love Birthday Parties was awarded $5,450 for their community birthday parties and birthday box programs. These programs ensure that kids who may not get a birthday party otherwise are celebrated and receive a gift.

  • Troy-Miami County Public Library was granted $6,275 to pour a concrete walkway from an emergency exit to the sidewalk making the exit more accessible and safe.

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters Miami Valley was awarded $7,500 to support their one-to-one mentoring programming for residents of Troy. This grant was awarded from the General Fund ($5,207.87) and the Priority Needs Fund ($2,292.13).

  • Troy Civic Theatre received $8,200 to replace the curtain at the Barn in the Park.

  • Seeds of Hope OH received $9,000 in support of their Bed Fund. This fund exists to provide twin size beds to new foster and kinship families.

  • Miami County Park District was granted $10,000 for the “Science Alive! Hug the Earth with the Banana Slug String Band,” program. This program has been educating Troy students about the environment and conservation for 28 years.

  • The Future Begins Today received $12,500 in support of the TFBT Club and Homework Helperprograms. These programs supports students in grades 4-12 along their educational paths to graduation and beyond.

  • Troy-Hayner Cultural Center was granted $13,900 in support of the 2025 Friday’s on Prouty Summer Music Series. The series will include six concerts from June to August.

  • Dayton Performing Arts Alliance was granted $20,000 to continue the Music Discoveries program at Troy City Schools and St. Patrick Catholic School. The program introduces students to a variety of performing arts through performances.

  • Troy Community FM – Power 107.1 WTJN received $30,000 to support the operations of the radio station. Power 107 provides a platform for many local nonprofits, city and county officials, and schools to share their news.

  • Miami County Partners for Animal Welfare received $50,000 for the capital campaign to build a new animal shelter and adoption center in Miami County.

  • Troy Recreation Association was awarded $52,000 to replace their fire alarm and security systems. The new systems will create a much safer environment for all who attend the many programs Troy REC has to offer.


Priority Needs Fund Grants

  • St. Vincent DePaul Society was granted $5,000 to provide rent assistance to Troy residents. This assistance is available to individuals and families once every six months.

  • Miami Community Action Council was awarded $5,000 to create an updated joint website with the Miami Metropolitan Housing Authority. This website will be more effective in connecting people with the services they need around Miami County.

  • First United Church of Christ received $6,000 in support of the Weekend Backpack Food Program. This program delivers breakfast and lunch items to Troy elementary schools for students to take home on the weekend.

  • New Creation Counseling Center received $12,000 to provide counseling and psychiatry services to residents of Troy, regardless of their ability to pay.

  • Family Abuse Shelter of Miami County was granted $30,000 to support the services they provide for victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault, and stalking.


Grant awarded from the Richard Shellenbarger Music Fund

  • Bach Society of Dayton was awarded $9,000 to bring a performance of Handel’s Messiah to the Arbogast Performing Arts Center in Troy next April. This grant is from the General Fund ($3,932.25) and the Richar Shellenbarger Music Fund ($5,067.75).


   The Distribution Committee meets quarterly to review grant applications. Only organizations with a 501(c)(3) status are eligible to apply.
